Dear Mr. [Frederick] Lowe:
Thank you for writing to share the recent article at northstarnewstoday.com. I appreciate hearing from you.
I’m grateful that you took the time to share the article you wrote with me.
As a member of the House Trade Working Group, I have followed the ongoing TPP negotiations very closely, and I find many of your criticisms of the proposed agreement very compelling, and I’ve shared them with my colleagues. I’ve had the opportunity to read sections of the TPP behind closed doors and, rather than making me feel better about the agreement, these opportunities have only solidified my doubts.
We need trade policy that protects American workers and raises standards around the world, but the Trans-Pacific Partnership is not that agreement. I am concerned about the job losses we face, in addition to and environmental protections that leave much to be desired and changes to intellectual property protections that threaten affordable access to lifesaving medications both here and abroad. I will work closely with my colleagues in the House of Representatives to oppose this bad trade deal and promote fair trade policies whenever I can.
Again, thank you for taking the time to reach out about this issue. Please don’t hesitate to contact me again if I can ever be of assistance in the future.
Member of Congress
