Formula 1 driver Lewis Carl Hamilton has the pole position in today’s Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix after winning the Chinese Grand Prix April 12 in Shanghai.
Hamilton took the pole position by 0.411 seconds over Sebastian Vettel who drives for Ferrari. Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg finished in third position.
The Bahrain Grand Prix takes place during the evening at the Bahrain International Circuit in Shakur near Manama, the island’s capital. The race is run at night because of the desert heat. Temperatures average 84.6 degrees fahrenheit in April. The Kingdom of Bahrain is an island country on the western shores of the Persian Gulf.
Hamilton, the world’s only black Formula 1 driver, won the Australian Grand Prix, the opening race of the 2015 racing season. The race was held March 15.
He finished second to Vettel in the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix, which was held March 29.
Hamilton, a black Englishman, has 68 points and leads the other drivers in the race for driver of the year honors. He is the reigning Formula 1 driving champion.
