Amber Guyger, a Dallas police officer, who entered the wrong apartment, mistakenly believing it was  where she lived and shooting and killing the actual tenant, was arrested Sunday and charged with manslaughter.

Guyger, 30, was released on $300,000 bond for Thursday’s deadly shooting of the Botham Shem Jean. The medical examiner ruled Jean’s death a homicide. The the 26-year-business executive was shot in the chest and stomach, the medical examiner’s office reported.

Faith Johnson, the Dallas District Attorney, said Guyger’s case will go before a grand jury and the charges could be upgraded to murder.

The Texas Rangers Division investigated Jean’s death at the request of the Dallas Police Department, where Guyger had worked four years. She was assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division.

Jean and Guyer both lived in South Side Flats, an apartment building. Guyger, who was wearing her police uniform, said she had finished her shift. She went to the wrong apartment after parking on the wrong floor of the garage, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Jean’s and Guyger’s apartments are numbered the same, but her apartment was on the third floor and Jean’s apartment was on the fourth.

His apartment also had a red doormat. Guyger’s does not. The Dallas Morning News reported that Jean’s door was unlocked (this is confusing because other tenants said the doors automatically lock when closed). When Guyger walked inside and saw Jean, she shot him twice, suspecting he was a burglar. Jean died at Baylor University Medical Center.

Jean, who is a native of Saint Lucia, had been working as an intern in risk assurance for accounting at Pricewaterhouse Coopers, an international accounting and consulting firm with offices in Dallas.

He was a 2016 graduate of Harding University, a private Christian liberal arts university in Searcy, Arkansas. He earned degrees in accounting and business systems. Jean was also a member of the school’s campus ministry.

The shooting has international repercussions. Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings is scheduled to meet today with Allen Chastanet, prime minister of Saint Lucia, to discuss the shooting.

Guyger also was involved in shooting last year, which the victim survived.

Dallas West Church of Christ will hold funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday for Jean
