Reigning Formula 1 Champion Lewis Hamilton finished third in Sunday’s Bahrain Gulf Air Grand Prix, following a second-place finish in the Australian Grand Prix, Formula 1’s opening race for the 2016 season. Hamilton’s disappointing showing was due to a collision in the first lap.

He, however, fought from ninth place to finish third.

Nico Rosberg, Hamilton’s Mercedes AMG teammate and rival, won in Bahrain, followed by Kimi Raikkonen, who drives for Ferrari.

During qualifying, Hamilton had the pole position after recording the fastest time on the course.

Hamilton finished second to Rosberg in the Australian Grand Prix, which was held March 20 in Melbourne.

Hamilton, a black Englishman, has won Formula 1’s World Drivers’ Championship three times, including back-to-back championships in 2014 and 2015.

In 2008, at 23, Hamilton won his first Formula 1 championship, making him the youngest winner in the sport’s history.
