The Formula 1 season takes its checkered flag November 25 with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but Lewis Hamilton won’t have to wait that long.
Hamilton is expected to wrap up his fifth World Drivers’ Championship by winning this weekend’s U.S. Grand Prix in Elroy, Texas, near Austin.
On October 7, he won the Japanese Grand Prix, his third-consecutive victory. He has won nine races this year. After the U.S. Grand Prix, there are races remaining in Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi.
Hamilton, who drives for Mercedes, has 331 points to second place Sebastian Vettel’s 264. Vettel drives for Ferrari. Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas is in third place with 207 points.
Hamilton is the 2017 defending World Drivers’ Champion. He also won the crown in 2008 and in 2014 and 2015 in back-to-back wins.
