Poultry processor Pilgrim’s Pride is too chicken to hire blacks
The United States Department Labor announced on Wednesday that it sued Pilgrim’s Pride, one of the nation’s largest chicken processors, for refusing to hire African Americans for entry-level jobs and laborers and operatives at its plant in Marshville, North Carolina.
This is the second lawsuit filed against Pilgrim’s Pride in less than 30 days. The first lawsuit, filed September 15, charged that the company discriminated against qualified African-American, Caucasian and women applicants for entry-level labor and operative positions at its plant in Athens, Alabama.
JBS S.A., the Brazilian food giant, owns 75% of Pilgrim’s Pride outstanding stock.
