Mack Rice, who wrote “Mustang Sally,” has died.

Mack Rice, composer of “Mustang Sally” and co-composer of “Respect Yourself,” died from complications associated with Alzheimer’s Disease on June 27 in his Detroit home.

Mr. Rice, who also was called “Sir Mack Rice,” composed “Mustang Sally” for Wilson Pickett. The two had been members of The Falcons, an R & B group formed in 1955 in Detroit. The group was popular in the ‘50s and the ‘60s.

Rice also composed “Respect Yourself” with Luther Ingram, the late singer and songwriter. “Respect Yourself,” a huge hit for the Staples Singers, was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002.

Mr. Rice, a Clarksdale, Miss., native, was 82.
