“The Lost Tapes of Malcolm X”

The Smithsonian Channel premiered “The Lost Tapes: Malcolm X” 8 p.m.  Eastern Standard Time on February 26.

The one-hour film takes viewers on a journey through some of his pivotal years as an activist.

“We are not brutalized because we are Baptists. We are not brutalized because we are Methodists. We’re not brutalized because we are Muslims. We are not brutalized because we are Catholics,” Malcom X tells a rapt audience in Los Angeles. “We are brutalized because we are black people in America.”

Three gunmen shot to death Malcolm X on February 21, 1965 in Manhattan’s Audubon Ballroom.
