Following doctor’s orders, Aretha Franklin will take two months off to rest because of an undisclosed illness and will not perform at concerts in Newark, N.J. and New Orleans.
“She is extremely disappointed she cannot perform at this year’s New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival as she had expected to,” her management said in a press release.
The “Queen of Soul” will also miss performing in a concert on March 25, her 76th birthday, at Newark’s New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
Promoters have canceled both concerts. Aretha last performed live in November 2017 at Elton John’s annual AIDS Foundation gala.
She still has concert dates scheduled later this year for Wang Theatre in Boston and for the Toronto Jazz Festival.
The 18-time Grammy winner has been hounded by rumors of poor health, but she said they are not true. She has indicated that she will soon retire from touring but will continue recording.
